The relief efforts in northern Japan are intensifying thanks to the outpouring of support by the international community.

Sunday night in Salt Lake City hundreds attended a benefit concert held at the University of Utah's School of Music and raised nearly 20 thousand dollars for Red Cross relief efforts.

Dozens of musicians trained in traditional Japanese performance arts took part in the concert, among them, pianist Sakiko Tbata and Seika Miaybe on the Tsugaru-Shamisen folk guitar, as they provided music for the traditional Japanese dance Nihon Buyou.
