Soul Train Creator Don Cornelius Commits Suicide

Don Cornelius, flamboyant creator of the longtime music program Soul Train has committed suicide.

Police in Sherman Oaks, California have confirmed Cornelius death, saying he died of a self inflicted gunshot wound inside his home around 4 am Wednesday morning.

Cornelius had suffered significant health problems in the past few years, including a stroke. He also recently underwent brain surgery.

Since 2009, the legendary producer had been embroiled in a bitter divorce. He'd also been arrested on domestic violence charges.

Cornelius hosted the popular Soul Train from 1971 to 1991.
